Case Study

Context:  This organization supports students, especially those who are historically disadvantaged, in being accepted into and completing 4-year college programs. They use a near-peer mentorship model where students communicate with a peer mentor who has been through the process they are going through. The mentors use research-based curricula to support the students' needs at their particular point in the process.

Challenge: Feedback from students and mentors suggested that mentors were not strong at helping students understand federal work-study. Many students in the program receive this financial aid from their college, so it is important that mentors have resources to help their students.

Solution: This one-pager addresses students' most common questions and concerns about federal financial aid. It is made for mentors to send to their students via text or computer as a reference.

Result: The goal of this one-pager is to decrease student and mentor confusion around federal work-study programs. This will be measured by the instances of questions or comments about this program found in feedback surveys as compared to before the one-pager was available as a resource to mentors.
